The ceramics workshop located "in Hintergasse 13" is celebrating its centenary this year. Carl Fischer founded a pottery in this building 100 years ago, which still produces under the name "Echt-Bürgeler” " in the historical rooms today. Töpferei Echtbürgel GmbH was founded in 2000. The managing director of the pottery is Falk Wächter, who gives us this interview:
How are the objects produced in your pottery?
Most of the pieces are thrown on the potter's wheel and the handles are pulled or garnished by hand. In addition, casting ceramics are produced so that we are able to produce asymmetrical and angular pieces, as well as figurative forms. Some tableware pieces we need larger quantities of, e.g. plates, are formed on our punch and then finished on the potter's wheel. Due to these three forming processes, we produce almost 500 different forms at present.
How is the tableware decorated?
The most important and well-known decoration of the pottery Echtbürgel is the traditional blue with the white dots, which is available in a deep dark blue as well as in a slightly lighter variant. In addition, there are other decors, such as a light blue ground with large white dots, a beige ground with small blue dots, and the traditional old decors, the so-called "fisherman's patterns". This year we have produced for the first time a decor (light blue-grey with stripes carved) from the 1950/60s in a limited quantity.
